What is a MICR code?
MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) is a 9-digit code printed at the bottom of every cheque leaf used for electronic clearing.
Where do I find it?
Look at the bottom of your cheque. The 9-digit numeric code between the cheque number and your account number is the MICR code.
Is it the same as IFSC?
No. IFSC is an 11-character alphanumeric code for NEFT/RTGS. MICR is used for cheque-clearing systems (MICR-based CTS processing).
